SVCF stewards the philanthropic assets in your fund so that they are ready to help you make a positive impact through grantmaking, whether your plan is to recommend grants immediately or over the course of years. When you choose to invest your fund in one of our three investment pools, you’re choosing world-class investment managers and strategies. In addition, SVCF offers an Individually Managed Fund program that provides the opportunity to recommend a trusted investment professional to manage a custom portfolio for your fund. All investments are overseen by our experienced investment committee, staff and consultants. Please read our investment policy for maintaining strong, consistent returns over time.
The SVCF team is grateful to be a partner in your philanthropy. We are confident that our investment pools provide ease-of-use for fundholders and result in positive impact for our communities.
Investment Pools
A choice of three investment pools is designed to meet a range of philanthropic goals and time horizons. Fund advisors may allocate to one or more pools. We maintain your fund's investment pool allocation through regular monthly rebalancing. Pool allocations may be changed once per year or upon a significant change in charitable goals or time horizon. For a current performance report, contact us.
Long-Term Pool: For funds with expected grantmaking timelines of seven or more years
Medium-Term Pool: For funds with expected grantmaking timelines of three to six years
Short-Term Pool: For funds with expected grantmaking timelines of up to two years
Our investment pools are designed to:
- Ensure that our fundholders have access to investments that correspond with their expected timelines for distributing grants;
- Align with the environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations that are increasingly important to so many of our donors; and
- Avoid any investment-related fees* for those whose funds are in the Short-Term Pool. In addition, for these fundholders with the nearest-term grantmaking plans, we will guarantee the stable value of funds invested in the new Short-Term Pool. Participants in this pool do not realize any investment returns on their funds; however, SVCF guarantees that their value will be held stable and will not be negatively impacted by potential market volatility.
Individually Managed Funds
For advised funds of $5 million or more, donors may recommend a trusted investment advisor to manage the fund and ensure its growth. Read more about Individually Managed Funds.
